Christine Lavin
Christine Lavin is a singer/songwriter/guitarist/recording artist/author/videographer based in New York City. Christine’s latest album is DRUM SCHOOL DROPOUT released in 2025. In April 2019 she was inducted into the Rochester, NY Music Hall Of Fame. Christine performs concerts all over the US, Canada, and points beyond (Australia, Germany, Israel), often hosting knitting circles and Downton Abbey-style napkin folding backstage at each show. She is known for her sense of humor, which is expressed in both her music and her onstage performances. Many of her songs alternate between comedy and emotional reflections on romance. Songs of hers have been performed by artists as diverse as Broadway stars Betty Buckley, Sutton Foster, Karen Ziemba, and Klea Blackhurst, cabaret divas Andrea Marcovicci. Barbara Brussell, and Colleen McHugh, the a cappella Dartmouth Decibelles, and The Accidentals, winners of the National Harmony Sweepstakes Championship. Christine has been called “A fearless folkZinger!” by the Orlando Sentinel, “Wildly entertaining,” by The New Yorker, and “A fresh kick in the pants!” by the late Paul Newman.

Matt Watroba with Robert Jones
Ever since their first meeting, over thirty years ago, Robert Jones and Matt Watroba have been musical partners. Their relationship dates back to when they hosted back to back, radio shows on WDET-FM, Detroit. In performing together and they discovered a friendship based in mutual respect and a love for traditional American music.
For Matt and Robert, American Roots Music (Folk, Blues, Spirituals, Work Songs, Chants, etc.) is “Music that Matters”. It is music that reflects history, social change, migration, hopes and dreams. Together, in 2019, they formed a non-profit company called Common Chords. It’s purpose is to create connections through music and the arts in order to bring us into a common understanding of one another.
This year 2026 is Matt’s 50th year in radio and 40th as a performer. In 2019, Matt Was inducted into the Folk DJ Hall of Fame at the Folk Alliance International conference in Montreal. Matt sings and writes songs of compassion, inner strength, humor, and every day living. As an ordained minister and a Baptist pastor, Robert Jones has an unwavering faith in the cultural importance of sacred and traditional American roots music to make a bridge between cultures and generations.. An award-winning multi-instrumentalist, he is accomplished on guitar, harmonica, mandolin, banjo, fiddle and ukulele. He has recorded six albums of original and tradition songs.
As talented as they are individually together they offer powerful songs, unforgettable stories, spiritual depth, and a rare kind of authenticity that is simply enjoyable.

Joe Crookston
On stage Joe Crookston is a force of nature, his rhythms infectious. He is funny as hell one moment and transcendent the next.
Born and raised in rural Ohio he attended Kent State University where he attended the Kent State Folk Festival where folk music became his focus. Currently he is based in Ithaca, New York and tours extensively around the U.S., Canada and Ireland. He had performed with Suzanne Vega, Dar Williams, David Francey, John McCutcheon, John Gorka and Judy Collins and had played at music festivals such as The Goderich Roots Festival, The Kerrville Folk Festival, The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, The Philadelphia Folk Festival, 30A Songwriters Festival, Mariposa Folk Festival, Caramoor Music Fest, Fayetteville Roots Festival and The Heartwood Stage Festival. He has taught songwriting and guitar at The Swannanoa Gathering, The Ashokan Center, Winter Village Music Camp, The Goderich Celtic College, Appel Farm Arts, and Music Center Wildflower Music Festival.
Come to experience Joe’s unique music style. At the end of the night, you’ll leave inspired.

Crys Matthews

Crys is a daughter of the South by way of Nashville now and North Carolina forever she is the self-proclaimed poster child of intersectionality. Matthews in her new album Reclamation sings social justice music right alongside ‘traditional’ Country and Americana music. Her purpose: to use her music to amplify marginalized voices and challenge systemic inequities.

Mustard’s Retreat
Mustard’s Retreat has for decades been delighting audiences as raconteurs, storytellers and accomplished musicians (vocals, guitars, dulcimer, electric bass, mandolin, harmonica, pennywhistle). David Tamulevich & Libby Glover have always sung the songs they enjoyed and cared about. In every performance they simply are themselves delighting in and connecting with their audiences as if they were family.
Mustard’s Retreat does not give a formal ”performance”. A sharing of songs and experience is what happens when they are on stage. Their songs can be traditional, contemporary or their own compositions. Regardless of type the audience is invited into their world and are drawn closer together. It is music for real people about real things- life, love, sex and death- the big stuff- and the songs have entered the lexicon of “ anonymous” folk songs and are being passed from hand to hand- which is the ultimate tribute to a songwriter. They came of age in the 60s, at the confluence of Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan and the singer/songwriter revolution. They care much more about what they do and stand for and finding that common ground with the audience, than fame or money. Garnet Rogers commented that “Mustard’s Retreat stands out as the real thing: Writing to make sense of their lives, helping us to make sense of ours, sharing much, talking little, trying to find the most graceful path and being able to laugh at the inevitable stumbles and head bumps along the way. “Mustard’s Retreat puts the fun in folk!

Holly Near
“I do not separate my music from my heart nor do I separate my ideas from my daily life. I open myself up to learning as much as I can about humanity and this mysterious life experience, but I do not relate to political work as a series of ’causes.’ Moment by moment, I integrate what I learn into my personal life, personalizing my politics. It is from this personal place that I write my songs.” – Holly Near
Singing was part of Holly from the beginning as she sang along with recordings of some of the world’s great singers. Holly attended UCLA for a few short months but she was nabbed by agents and drawn into the world of film and television. (Yes she was on The Partridge Family). She even performed for a short run in Hair on Broadway. Her unique and recognizable voice turned her to singing full time, as a soloist as well as sharing the stage with her sisters Laurel and Timothy. Throughout her career she has enjoyed collaborations with such artists as Mercedes Sosa, Ronnie Gilbert, Inti Illimani, Emma’s Revolution, and her long-time songwriting partner, the late Jeff Langley. In the 1970’s her introduction to global feminism had her crossing paths with lesbian feminist performers such as Meg Christian, Cris Williamson, Linda Tillery, Mary Watkins, and Alive! Her view of life was expanded as she tried to understand the depth of sexism and homophobia. Of course she turned the lessons she learned into song.
“As a songwriter she turns big experiences into personal stories. In response to the slaughter of the students at Kent State, she wrote It Could Have Been Me. And following the assassinations of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk in San Francisco, she penned Singing For Our Lives. The chilling disappearance of people in Chile under the Pinochet dictatorship brought forth Hay Una Mujer Desaparecida to commemorate the women who had “been disappeared.”
She has been recognized by various justice organizations from the ACLU, the National Organization of Women, and Ms Magazine. (She is a recipient of the Women of the Year awarded by Ms Magazine). She has been nominated for Grammys as well as the Legends of Women’s Music Award.
In 2019, Holly began a website project called Because of a Song, an online historic archive that documents some of the influential artists that rose from the feminist lesbian music scene in Oakland, California. The site can be viewed at www.becauseofasong.com.
Her unique and recognizable voice in confluence with her commitment to human rights and political justice makes an evening of her music unforgettable.

Tom Chapin
TOM CHAPIN’s remarkable musicianship, great songwriting, and personal warmth shine through in his many award-winning recordings and videos, but especially in his concerts, which are special experiences for young and old alike. Known for his ABC children’s show Make-A-Wish and his children’s albums, Chapin is also the younger brother of late folk singer/songwriter and humanitarian Harry Chapin. A fixture on the American folk music circuit, he has frequently performed with Pete Seeger, Holly Near, Peter Yarrow, Judy Collins, and David Amram. His career spans five decades and over 25 albums. Tom has been recognized with three Grammy awards for Mama Don’t Allow, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and The Train They Call the City of New Orleans. Tom regularly performs with other members of his musical family, including brother Steve Chapin, his niece Jen Chapin, and his daughters The Chapin Sisters, billed as The Chapin Family, playing tribute to his brother Harry and supporting Why Hunger. His music not only entertains his audience but leads us all toward justice together.

Note on proceeds: We are a volunteer organization and most of our proceeds from ticket sales, beyond performer fees and coffeehouse overhead, go to our parent organization, The Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Inc.
